As the name suggests, Casarão Alto Mucugê is perched high on a cliff overlooking the turquoise waters of Mucugê beach. This elegant pousada offers just eight rooms, most with water views. All are built around lush green lawns with swaying palm trees and a jacuzzi with panoramic sea views.

Here you’ll feel blissfully far away from the crowds, but you’re just a 10-minute drive from the buzzing town of Arraial d’Ajuda. The beach is just a 10-minute walk away. If you’re fit and enjoy walking up occasionally steep hills, you can reach the town and nearby bars and restaurants on foot, but we recommend driving if you’re going to stay here. To the north, Porto Seguro is a 45-minute drive away, which includes a ferry crossing too. To the south is the chic village of Trancoso, less than 45 minutes by car.

Casarão Alto Mucugê is ideal if you’re looking to relax in a hammock, soak in the hot tub and listen to the wind in the palm trees. You’ll receive a warm welcome from host Gustavo and his team. Each day you’ll enjoy a decadent homemade breakfast worth getting out of bed for. All rooms have a verandah, air-conditioning, flat-screen TV, a mini-bar and a private bathroom. There’s a communal area where guests can relax, and parking and Wi-Fi are included.

Deluxe suites start at R$400 per night during low season (March to November) and from R$900 during busier periods.
