Located on idyllic Fourth Beach, Patachocas offers a tranquil, family-friendly retreat far from the buzz of the more tourist-laden spots on the island. This lush resort was once a coconut farm, so you can expect many towering coconut palm trees, lush lawns and of course, beach frontage.

Fundamentally this is the kind of hotel you come to if you don’t want to venture much further than the bar, the restaurant, the beach or the pool. Patachocas is self-sufficient in that sense, and its distance from the other more popular beaches on the island can be seen as a blessing or a curse, depending on the experience you’re looking for.

If you do want to explore the other parts of the island, the hotel offers a free bus service which takes you to Segunda Praia (Second Beach). This rickety journey takes about 20 minutes or so. Our suggestion, if you stay here, it’s best if you’re happy to just hang out at the hotel and the nearby beach. At low tide you can explore the rock pools, the water is crystal clear and the hotel’s gardens and pool offer respite from the bustling streets and beaches closer to town.

Ideal for families

This is also a good choice if you’re travelling with kids, as there are plenty of activities to keep them amused, such as volleyball, a pool table, tennis, soccer and snorkelling. There’s also an entertainment team who organise supervised activities for children aged between 4 – 10 years. They also take care of children between 7.30pm – 10pm each evening, so you can relax and unwind over dinner or a few cocktails.

Dining at the restaurant

Restaurante Grauçá serves up reasonably priced Mediterranean and Bahian dishes in a spacious, airy setting. Comfortable sofas, high ceilings, live music and the warm, red décor add to the ambience.
