Located on Tiririca Beach, just 800 metres from the centre of Itacaré, is the rustic-chic Pousada Tãnara. This stylish, private enclave looks out over the water. There are six enchanting suites in total, three with beach views – Ibisco, Condor and Acacia. All of them offer private balconies and bar fridges and most offer air-conditioning.

There’s nothing better than waking up for a delicious breakfast right by the sea. Nele and her team will lure you from slumber each morning with homemade yoghurt, freshly baked cakes and pão de queijo (cheese bread), as well as fresh fruits, juices, crêpes, cous cous and fried bananas. You won’t need to eat again until sunset.

Enjoy a massage or a yoga class, go kayaking or horse riding. This area has plenty of outdoor activities to explore. There’s free WiFi for guests, but being set amid the Atlantic forest, the signal isn’t always as strong as it is in town. The pousada also has a library of books in a variety of languages, just in case you forget to bring one with you!

The Pousada Tãnara team also speak Portuguese, English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German and Italian – so everyone is welcome.

Double suites range between R$170-R$225 in low season and R$210-R$315 in high season (Dec – Feb).
