Room Details

UXUA is a decadent enclave, nestled alongside Trancoso‘s car-free town square. Built around tranquil gardens, this 5-star resort has the intimacy of a pousada. It’s comprised of 11 stylish houses, five which date back some 500 years, back to when Trancoso was first founded.

The properties at UXUA have been lovingly restored by local artists and craftsmen. This work was done under the expert eye of the hotel’s owner, Dutch designer Wilbert Das. He’s best known for his role as the former Creative Director of fashion label Diesel during the 1990s.

Each property at UXUA has its own unique style, decor and family history – if these walls could talk.

Inside UXUA

Four houses, as well as the Quadrado restaurant at UXUA, front directly onto the buzzing town square (quadrado). Meanwhile the others are nestled around the hotel’s lush gardens.

Inside Almescar Spa, UXUA

As you stroll through the hotel’s grounds, you’ll pass by the Almescar Spa (pictured above). This tranquil hideaway offering scrubs, massages and facials using native ingredients, such as Brazil nuts, coconut oil and shea butter. Their signature ingredient, Almescar oil, comes from trees indigenous only to southern Bahia and the Amazon.

As a guest here, you can work up a sweat in the gym, unwind in the library or sip a cocktail as you soak in the pool. If you can manage to leave the chic confines of the hotel, UXUA’s rustic bar is waiting for you. On Barra do Rio Trancoso beach you’ll find refreshing tropical cocktails, sun loungers, Bahian cuisine and fluffy towels. If you’re feeling active, there’s also sea kayaking, beach volleyball and a wooden gym to enjoy.

The Quadrado restaurant at UXUA plates up inventive, high-end Bahian meals. Fresh ingredients are grown in the hotel’s own garden or on local farms, and seafood comes from local fishermen. By day, dine beneath the shade of the Quadrado’s leafy canopy. By night, settle in beneath the soft lighting in the trees, as you gaze up to the stars. Try the moqueca baiana or the seafood with black rice.
